Goin’ to the (Hangout) Chapel: Couples tie the knot at music festival

In addition to the many musical attractions, food offerings and other attractions for festivalgoers, Hangout Music Festival also offers… a wedding chapel.

“It’s really cool to me personally, to see the people who truly love each other and have a chance to express it, either in front of people or just with us,” Hadyn Henderson, one of the Hangout staff members on hand to “officiate” the weddings (Henderson is not, as of this writing, an ordained minister). “There’s something about a practice wedding or a fake wedding to really witness real love.”

It’s one of a few festivals in the country where attendees can get married. Most Hangout weddings, however, are just that: they last until the end of the festival. But according to AL.com reporters and Hangout veterans Lawrence Specker and Tandra Smith, at least one couple ties the knot for real at the chapel every year.

The rings are, of course, ring pops, and the couples get to choose if they want the “red” or “blue” flavor. The chapel also has veils and top hats that the couples can use as props, if they so choose.

For these couples who got “married” at Hangout this year, the festival was a good practice run for the real thing.
